The Philippine delegation participates in the Opening Ceremony of the 13th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit chaired by the UAE. Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol Undersecretary Robert E.A. Borje, Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, and Commission on Filipinos Overseas Undersecretary Astravel Pimentel-Naik led the Philippine delegation. Later this week, the Philippines will Co-Chair two of the Roundtable Meetings of the GFMD Summit: Undersecretary Borje at Roundtable Theme 2: Skilling Migrants for Employment, together with United Kingdom on 21 January 2021; and Undersecretary Arriola at Roundtable Theme 3: Leveraging New Technologies to Empower Migrants, together with Kenya on 20 January 2021. The Philippines’ participation at #GFMD13 is anchored on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s commitment to uphold, protect and promote the rights and welfare of and kalinga and malasakit for Overseas Filipino Workers. Hundreds of repatriates, home at last. The government once more brought home hundreds of distressed overseas Filipinos from the Gulf state on June 25, 2021. The Philippine delegation led by Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy Robert E. A. Borje, together with Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Arriola, accompanied some 301 repatriates, including six infants, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 via a Philippine Airlines chartered flight. Upon their arrival, the repatriates received P10,000 cash assistance each from the Philippine government, based on the instruction of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. As Kalinga at Malasakit for OFWs remains a key priority for the Duterte administration, the repatriation missions are anchored on President Duterte’s promise to care for overseas Filipinos around the world, particularly with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Upon disembarkation, all repatriates underwent mandatory medical tests prior to proceeding to their respective quarantine facilities. PRESIDENTIAL PHOTOS
